Artlink Project - Jordan / USA

To all ASG grade 8 students.....

How has the cultural exchange of the Artlink Project affected your preconception of the USA's culture till this day?

What has the exchange added or modified in your own ideas and thoughts?

  1. This Art project really opned my eye and made me see through the mist. At first I thought they had high standards and lots of IMPORTANT and meaningful values. They may have some important values but most failed to show it in thier paintings. I now clearly see that they are so competitive and love challenges, also that they are unable to express thier feelings clearly and they have absouloutly have no idea about thier culture outside thier daily life.

  2. This exchange have changed our preconception because we didn't have a clear idea of our partner's culture , our judgment was only based on rumors.I thought that Americana's are unhealthy fat people but now we know that sports is a significant part of their society. And that they care about their fitness and they are also very competitive people. This evidently shows through most of their drawings.

  3. Before this exchange I thought that both cultures are totally different from each other, but after the art-link project i think that both cultures are similar to each other. Jordanian and the American culture are based on determination, hard work, hopes and family bonds. The only difference between them that one culture concentrates more on a concept than the other culture.

  4. I always thought that Americans don't have a very strong culture, and they don't have any values. Later on, this idea started to fade away, once I looked at the paintings and studied them. I found that almost all of them share the same ideas which are: sports, competition, determination and health. On the other hand our paintings reflected our history and heritage. This idea led me to a great conclusion, which is that we BOTH have culture, but the only difference is in the way we perceive it. Therefore Culture is like a cube with six faces, we look at it from one side, while the Americans look at it from the opposite side, but we both share the same cube. Culture is not for granted, thus we can deal with it as if it's an elastic band, and we must use its flexibility to aid our thoughts that culture can be the present as well as the past; Americans are the best example.

  5. After discovering about America's values and details, I notice that i was thinking in a wrong way about few things. I thought that there is prejudice between America's people, and that they distinguish between white and black people. Although after i saw the picture where there is a group of choir in it, i changed my mind. Black and white people were singing together at the same time, in the same place. And i think that distinguishing between people is a very bad blunder, because they are both the same, and the color of the skin whether it's black or white it doesn't matter but the person's heart and behavior what matters. And also I noticed that most of America's people don't distinguish between different religious.

  6. I really liked the idea of the art link project. It really changed my preconception about the american culture. I thought they didn't family bonds. There's this picture; a father with his son watvhing t.v., at first I thought it was just a friend, but when I read the description sheet I was very shocked when i saw the word father not friend. I still believe that we have more family bonds than they have but at least they do have family relations.

  7. Before looking on the art work I thought that America is all about sitting with friends but not with families, but after looking on the art work I could say that yes they have family bonding, but between the art pieces there was a pieces that showed us a boy sitting on a computer playing video games alone plus the headphones he was wearing, so I started to think does this boy really wanted to send us the massage that he is alone or something else. And I also thought that Americans don’t give water any importance but after looking on the pieces I could say that yes they give water some importance.

  8. Before the art link project I had the impression that the people in the USA are very attached to their ruins and there culture, but I did not see that in their art work. I also wanted to see more of their love of football; I wanted to see paintings that show a football game in progress. I wanted to see more of their culture.
